By the time the first arrivals reached the screening lanes at the Amgen Irish Open in Doonbeg, much of our work had already taken place.
Equipment preparation. Staff training. Deployment planning. Coordinating the people and technology needed to deliver screening across every entry point.
For Pulse Security Management, this was an opportunity to bring those elements together at a major international sporting event, one that also welcomed a visit from the President of the United States.
The brief: screening at scale
Pulse delivered security and screening services across the event’s entry points, alongside a 24-hour security operation.
The task required equipment and personnel to work together within a wider event environment. Screening lanes needed to support the arrival process, officers needed to guide visitors, and technical support needed to be available throughout the operation.
The presidential visit added another dimension to an already high-profile occasion, reinforcing the importance of preparation and coordination.
Our role was focused: deliver the screening services within our remit, with the people, equipment and support needed on the ground.
The technology behind the operation
Security screening forms part of Pulse’s Technology Division, combining screening equipment with trained personnel and technical support.
At the Amgen Irish Open, our deployment brought together three complementary capabilities:
- Walk-through metal detection: screening people as they passed through designated entry lanes.
- Baggage X-ray screening: enabling operators to examine bags and their contents.
- Handheld metal detection: supporting follow-up screening where required.
Each served a different purpose within the screening process. Together, they formed the technical foundation of our operation.
But equipment was only one part of the delivery.
Months of preparation, brought together on site
An operation of this scale starts well before the equipment arrives at the venue.
In the months leading up to the event, our preparation covered equipment readiness, staffing, training, logistics and the coordination of screening locations.
That work brought together our operations and technology teams, engineers, supervisors and screening officers. Each had a part to play in moving from a plan to a working operation.
On site, the focus shifted to delivery: setting up equipment, supporting operators, coordinating shifts and maintaining communication across the screening locations.
The photographs capture individual moments. Behind each one was a much larger effort.
The people behind every lane
A visitor sees a detector, a scanner and an officer directing them through.
Behind that interaction are the people interpreting X-ray images, conducting screening, supporting the equipment and supervising the operation.
At Doonbeg, our officers worked alongside engineers, supervisors and support teams across day and night shifts. Their contribution extended from the public-facing screening lanes to the work taking place behind the scenes.
That is why we see screening as a service that brings people and technology together. The equipment provides the capability. The team puts it into practice.
A closer look at Pulse’s Technology Division
